OMG, Manuela! I was hardly breathing while reading this. What a terrifying experience. I hope your husband won’t have any longterm complications from this.

Thank you! It will take some time, but right now things are looking good.

I am glad to hear that, Manuela! You have so much stuff going on lately. Take good care of you!

Right? Yes, it has been a lot this year. I am hoping for a peaceful summer.

My fingers are crossed for you! ♥️

Wow. I’m really sorry you had to go through this, Manuela. I hope your husband recovers quickly. I shared your post with my stepson, who lives in Austin, TX and routinely bikes in 90-degree weather to “toughen himself up.” He’s a talented cloud engineer, but often shows questionable judgment in other areas.

Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks! We still don’t know exactly why this happened. For him, it was nothing unusual and he had plenty of fluids with him, but I guess it can happen. It is really dangerous though.

Wishing him a quick recovery.

I just now read this Manuela! I feel very relieved to read the end of this, and know that he is OK. But I am also feeling the intensity and the fear to have to process now. Sending so much love to all of you guys.

It was so scary, but all is well now, almost. Thanks for checking in with Brad!

Oh Manuela, what a horrific experience that must have been. I’m so glad that there was a happy ending to the ordeal. We all dread receiving that phone call, and reading your account gave me a small taste of what something like that is like.

Thanks, Todd!

Manuela, so sorry to hear about your husbands emergency, what an ordeal and how scary! Those are the calls we all fear and I'm happy that you had friends and family around to help support you so that you weren't dealing with everything alone. Best wishes to your husband for a speedy recovery and hugs to all of you. Please take some time from 'regular' life to take care of each other!

Thank you for your kind words, Kristina!

Oh Manuela, I'm so sorry that your family experienced this. I know how scary and intimidating it can feel to have one's spouse in such a critical state. The part about the windowless room especially resonated with me, as there was one here when my husband was in the ICU a couple of years ago. You described the story with such acuity, I felt as if I were there alongside you. I'm glad everything turned out to be fine in the end, but what a huge scare you had. Sending light, love, and peace to you as you continue to process the experience.

Thank you, Anne!

Dear Manuela,

I have been through something similar on two occasions with my husband. In both cases I recognised something significant was happening to my husband but had to visit 3 separate hospitals to be taken seriously.

I will never forget driving from one hospital to another knowing that something serious was happening to him and being met by medical staff, too quick to dismiss and pre judge without doing adequate tests.

When finally I found a doctor who looked beyond the obvious and did the right tests, I felt an enormous sense of relief. My husband was having a major stroke and that doctor saved his life.

I know that feeling of icy fear and the world spinning out of control.

I am so pleased your story has a happy ending. These events teach us gratitude for the things that mean the most in life. Family and loved ones, friendships and kindness.

Honey xx

Wow, that sounds really horrible, having to drive around to fine someone who will take your concerns seriously. You knew, that should be enough. Icy fear is a good word for it. It is awful. I hope that your husband is ok.

Gratitude is something I have been feeling a lot this week. Thank you so much for your kind comments!

Dear Manuela, I was on pins and needles and completely feeling all the feels. I'm so glad he's home and recovering! But what a huge scare for you and your family. Goodness! I'm glad you had support too. Whew! Hopefully he's getting thoroughly checked out. Here for you when you need.

Juliette, thank you so much! 2026 has been quite a year. I am ready for some calm.

2020 - 2026 and counting, unfortunately. But I find bright spots in between. Hugs to you!

Yes, for sure. The craziness didn't stop with the pandemic, but it seems like this is just life.
