If You Don't Find Much Time To Write
simply erase some words - a first attempt at erasure poetry
Dear Reader,
This past week I attended a short workshop on erasure poetry. It was a welcome escape from the daily grind that has had a hold on me for the past few weeks.
As you know, I have always loved poetry, and I have always liked the aesthetic of erasure poetry but had never tried it myself. It was fun to copy some random book pages and start the process after listening to some instruction and taking in some inspiration.
I thought I would share the results from my first attempts. I used a sharpie to erase the words and then added some dry plants/weeds collected on a recent walk to the page. I then photographed the pages and superimposed them with another image to add some color and texture and bring out the words. I am not saying that these are great poems, but I am saying that this is going to be my newest obsession for a while. It is so much fun to take some book pages (copies of book pages) and look for some new and unexpected meaning in all those words.
When you don’t find much time to write, simply find time to erase some words.
Erasure poem 1
The dream
I had
must mirror
self-interrogation.
Upon
deeper meaning,
I realize the question.
Erasure poem 2
I long and dream
suddenly
I feel and remember
one
soft
small
glimmer
dim and unexpected
wild and happy.
Two weeks ago, I mentioned I would share some older posts from my archives, but then…I didn’t. I honestly haven’t been at my best and hope to get back to regular and better habits, and continue writing, sharing and creating every week as usual. I have had some doubts about continuing to publish anything online and a desire to stay away from it all. Does anyone else ever feel this way?
Nonetheless, here are four posts from my archives that you may have missed. It’s my four-part series titled “Searching For Home” if you are interested. Make sure you don’t miss the date for our next “Creative Hour” (see below)!

Items Of Note
Our next “Creative Hour” for paid subscribers is scheduled for Saturday, March 22 at 11 am CST. This is a time for us to come together and share new or old work, give and receive feedback and discuss topics on art and creativity. Each time we have met, if’s been so refreshing and inspiring, I can’t wait to see you all again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! It is so appreciated.
To support my work, I invite you to share this post or leave a comment, or both. Thank you!
I have been feeling like this lately, too! I don't know if it has to do with the flood of new people here (I am little overwhelmed by it to be honest), the political situation (why even bother to send out my words and photos into this terrible world?), my bully (whom I finally blocked here) or a mix of it all. But yes, you are not alone in this. I would be sad to see you go, but I would understand if you took a break. If you'd like to talk about it, feel free to write me.
Also, I love black-out poetry. It fascinates me because I always feel my subconsciousness is doing all the work. Sometimes, I am surprised by the results.
The idea combining these with photographs is amazing! Thank you for sharing!
I think this is my favorite art to create. Love it!
