Lovely post and images, Manuela! I so enjoy the long days of summer and try to spend as much time outside as possible. We’re fortunate here in Flagstaff, AZ to have relatively cool temperatures, very low humidity, and (almost) no bugs. I feel such gratitude during my morning walks in the forest and after-dinner strolls around the neighborhood. For these reasons, the final line of your poem really resonated with me—my appreciation for ‘the beauty that is close by’ has only grown in recent years, and I find myself less drawn to faraway travel than I once was.

This is a lovely, gentle post - your words speak so much truth alongside your beautiful images Manuela. Like Todd, as I've grown older, far away travel no longer interests me. I've found I appreciate the small details of the world around me and love the unique beauty I find closer to home.

Dear Manuela,

Such a poignant and beautiful post. It calls me to see all the beauty that hides in ordinary places and to not be so annoyed when my cat also finds whatever she can use to make noise and wake me up early in the morning. Even our cats are kindred spirits! Though I need sleep, early mornings are the best. I love when the world becomes hushed, and as you say, the birds greet each other. Anniversaries can make things feel tender again. I love how you say that we all "walk with a limp." Life is hard at times. It leaves no one unscathed. But the truth is exactly as you point out, that beauty is an antidote to all of that. It sustains us and gives a reason to get out of bed (besides feeding the cat). Summer days have a certain sweetness to them, despite the heat. Things are in bloom. Birds are active. Light is abundant, even in the starlit sky. Enjoy these long days. So nice to see new work in color!! xoxo
