This is beautiful and deep. I have been there and find great peace in how you have expressed your feelings and thoughts so clearly. This is a true gift.

Mmm. It is a mystery how beauty and pain can exist in life at the same moment. Grateful for how you put words to emotions of a very inward heart reality.

I like the blanket analogy, how everything on the other side of it seems remote, trivial. When I lost my Dad nearly 30 years ago it was like I was shrouded in that grey blanket, the view out from it all in dull monochrome, all the colour gone. Mum and him had come to visit and meet their first grandchild, our month-old Son. Here one moment, gone the next, right before our eyes to a massive heart attack. The grey shroud and the weight of grief pressing on my chest did gradually lift over the ensuing weeks and months, the colour in the world slowly returning. Having a young family helped lift that blanket and let the colours back in, yet those hues somehow different to before. As you say, a changed kind of beauty.

Hi Manuela, as someone who lost her mother and her brother in a 5 year period, I relate to all of this deeply. I am so glad that Susanne Helmert recommended you to me...so much more to say but for now, I look forward to sharing in your writings. Your photography is very moving to me as well. I just started my journey here on Substack btw. Cheers from Atlanta, Georgia.
